It is very important that you study this section with your own personal skills and experiences in mind. Considering the geographical and meteorological conditions of the race zone, the organization suggests using the equipment in the table below to strengthen a runner’s personal safety and improve his/her experience. However, with that being said, selecting and evaluating each article of clothing and/or equipment for the race is the runner’s sole responsibility. Please consider that each person has different grades of tolerance when confronting adverse geographical and climatic conditions, in addition to the pace of the race (for example, you will probably need to carry a jacket if you prefer a slower pace).

The race format is non-stop and run semi-autonomously, which implies that each runner must be autonomous between Aid Stations. In other words, in order to face any type of climatic of physical condition, you must carry all mandatory equipment at all times, in addition to enough food and hydration to handle each section of the race.

The following table is the list of mandatory and recommended equipment for the race:

General Equipment and Others
(M: Mandatory / R: Recommended / N: Not Applicable)
5K 14K 21K 35K 50K
Backpack or Bag It must have sufficient capacity to safely carry all your gear/equipment, food, and hydration. R R R M M
Container to hold at least 0.5 liters
(Bottle or Camelbak)
There WON’T be disposable cups available at the starting lines, finish line, or at any aid stations (PAS). All runners must carry their own container (soft/hard bottle or bag) that can carry at least 0.5 liters. ULTRA PAINE® is a “cup-free” event. M M M M M
Non-disposable cup
(Ideal for both cold and hot liquids)
It’s not mandatory, as you already have a water container (bottle or bag). It’s only a suggestion in order to make water more accessible at each PAS. R R R R R
Survival Blanket
(Minimum Size 140 x 200 cm)
It protects
against wind and reduces the loss of body heat. It could also be useful in cases of withdrawal from the race or injury or it you have to wait for a vehicle from the organization to take you to the finish line. While you may choose a different size, it must have a minimum surface area of 2.8m².
R R R M M
Whistle In case a runner needs to alert or attract attention, especially in cases of emergency. We recommend that runners use a whistle with a potent sound and that it be kept in an easily accessible area. M M M M M
Sunglasses
(To protect against sun, wind or snow)
They protect the eyes from solar radiation, wind, dust, and other particles encountered on the route. We recommend using sports glasses with UV protection and a good fit. R R M M M
Reserve Nutrition Always carry extra food and supplies. Please consider that your energy consumptions will increase during poor weather conditions, low temperatures, precipitation and/or wind, meaning reserve nutrition is fundamental to both your performance and security. R R R M M
Knife or Pocket Knife Pocket knife, small scissors, or another compact tool capable of cutting bandages, tape, cords, or other materials if needed. R R R R R
Sunscreen It helps protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation. It is recommended to use a broad-spectrum product and apply it before the race. R R R R R
Mobile Phone Coverage will only be available in certain sections of the route, but the phone can be useful for communicating or providing location information when a signal is available. Make sure to have it charge and protected from water and impacts. R R R R R
CLOTHING
(M: Mandatory / R: Recommended / N: Not Applicable)
5K 14K 21K 35K 50K
Waterproof jacket with hood The outer layer should impede the passage of wind and rain. Due to the climate, we recommend that you use a windbreaker or a breathable waterproof jacket, such as GORE- TEX or similar. M M M M M
Long-sleeved base layer Wear a technical garment — made of synthetic material or merino wool — that is suitable for the weather conditions and your warmth requirements. Avoid cotton, as it retains moisture, takes a long time to dry, and loses its thermal insulation properties when wet. M M M M M
Hat It must provide thermal protection for the entire head, and, should preferably, cover the ears as well. Choose a style that retains heat even in windy and damp conditions. M M M M M
Gloves Hands start getting cold quickly in windy, cold, and wet conditions, especially during prolonged exposure. Therefore, it’s essential to keep them protected with thermal, windproof, and quick-drying gloves. M M M M M
Synthetic thermal jacket When facing adverse weather conditions, a good thermal jacket provides an additional layer of insulation and helps retain body heat, even in damp environments. We recommend carrying a jacket with a synthetic filling of at least 167 gr (Primaloft or similar). R R R R R
Long pants/tights (or similar) Pants, running tights, or other similar inner layer that covers the entire leg. R R R R R
Windbreaker A lightweight garment that provides additional wind protection. Although it does not replace the mandatory waterproof jacket with hood, it can be more comfortable during certain sections, depending on weather conditions. R R R R R
